Nellie Mae Harris

Norfolk- Nellie Mae Harris, age 78, passed away Friday, March 6, 2004 in a local hospital. She was born in Pitt County, North Carolina and resided in Norfolk, VA where she worked as a LPN at Leigh Memorial Hospital for 31 years. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James B. Harris, Sr.; son James B. Harris, Jr. and wife Jillana of Cocoa, Fl.; daughter Julia Jarret and husband Dave of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren Ashley N. Jarret, Kim Nosay and David Jarret; three great grandchildren; and a special niece Francis Edmondson.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice as well as to Pam Schroder, RN, of Palliative Care Depaul.

A graveside service will be held Monday, March 8, 2004 at 10:00AM at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. There will be a memorial service at 11:00AM with a reception to follow at Second Presbyterian Church, 7305 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to DePaul Health Foundation, Palliative Care Program 150 Kingsley LN, Norfolk, VA 23505. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach is handling arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at altmeyer.com

I knew Nellie when I was a child, and when I had my third child at Leigh, she was my nurse……..
