Nellie G. Lane – Va. Beach died on Thursday, July 23, 2009 after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Nellie and her husband Michael were long time residence of Va. Beach.

Nellie accompanied Michael during his military career and she was the epitome of “Bloom where you are planted”. She eagerly embraced each new assignment while growing her family. She was the ultimate mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a tireless friend and partner.

Following Michael’s retirement, the family settled in Virginia Beach where she found her true calling and professional passion. She began her medical career as a receptionist, and achieved the title of medical assistant to Dr. Armisted Williams. Her dedication and care of her patients was truly inspirational. She loved her patients and they loved her. Nellie loved the staff and her extended family in the medical community.
Nellie is survived by her loving husband, Michael E. Lane; daughters, Andrea Chavez, McDonough, GA., Valerie Pollock, Va. Beach; grandsons, Eric Chavez, McDonough, GA., Michael Redden, Va. Beach, Elijah Redden, Va. Beach granddaughter, Preslee Redden, Va. Beach; brother, Glen Riley, Arab, AL, Jay Dee Riley, Bonneville, IN., Frank Cheryl Riley, Hardin, KY.; sisters, Annetta Larry Burke, Kathleen, GA., Lynda Jim Dalton, Terre Haute, IN., Lynnette David Miller, Jeffersonville, IN., and a host of other relatives and friends. Nellie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary and Cecil Riley; and brother, Harold Clark.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 5-7pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Va. Beach, VA. Special appreciation is extended to the staff and doctors of Virginia Oncology associates and especially to Dr. Thomas Alberico. To Nellie’s Family and Dr. Armistead Williams,

My Mom, Frances Chorey, who is 92 with Parkinson’s and now in a nursing home, will always appreciate the kindness of Nellie as we would see Armistead with appts. Mom prayed for Nellie when we learned of her sickness, and our prayers are with you, the family, as well as Dr. Williams, who was blessed to have Nellie with him for such a long time.

God Bless…. Billy Chorey
