Nellie A. Twiford

Virginia Beach – Nellie Ansell Twiford, 72, passed away February 2, 2015. Nellie was born in Knotts Island, NC to the late Fred and Letha Grimstead Ansell. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing the slots, auto racing, playing softball, shooting pool and above all, spending time with and caring for her family and friends. She never met a stranger.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 57 years, Stanley Lee Twiford; children, Patty Twiford Halstead, Stanley Wayne Twiford and Stacey Ronald Twiford, all of Moyock; siblings, Patricia Ansell Sauer of Knotts Island and Donald Ray Ansell of IN; grandchildren, Robert Wayne Twiford and Keri Halstead Williams and her husband Marty; great grandchildren, Weston Otto Williams, Waylon Owen Williams and Madison Leigh Twiford and her mother Aimee Carr; beloved dogs, Betsy and Katy; and many life long friends.

The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Chesapeake on Friday from 2:00 pm until 3:00pm, immediately followed by a funeral service. Family and friends are invited back to the residence following the service. Condolences may be expressed to the family at altmeyer.com.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I thought a lot of Nellie and have a lot of memories of times with all of the family together. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone during this difficult time.

I have known Nellie all my life and when I remember her it is all good memories. She will be missed by many. My condolences to the Twiford family.
