Morgan Frank Chavis, 64, of Newport News, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
“Frank” was born in Mobile, Alabama where he spent most of his childhood. He received his bachelor’s degree from Saint Leo College. Frank was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in Granada, Lebanon, Japan, was awarded numerous commendation medals, and retired after twenty years of service. He then joined Home Quarters as a Government sales representative.
At the age of 47, he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease ALS. He battled for more than eighteen years which proved to be a true testament of his strength and will to live for his family.
He especially looked forward to Sunday afternoons when his children and grandchildren would visit. He enjoyed fishing and had a passion for carpentry. A great day for Frank was spending time outside, mowing the lawn, sitting by the pool, and drinking his Bud Light. He was known for his can-do attitude and simplistic nature. Frank’s motto to live by was, “do it now, not tomorrow.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Inez Chavis; his sister, Bertha Mae Lindsey; and his son, Rodney Chavis.
He is survived by his wife, Marion S. Chavis; daughters: Michelle Yoder, Tonya Franklin, Cristina Borchart Steve, Tatjana Christian Kiwian, Diana Eady; son, Kevin Eady; siblings: Carrol Hatter, Essie Zorn, Dorothy Blue, Darrel Chavis; and ten grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 1 to 2 pm, followed by funeral service.

To the Entire Family of Frankie Chavis- Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
We did not know Frankie personally, but knew his family, his parents, grandparents, cousins. He fought a very courageous battle with ALS and in our opinion won that battle. He will be thought of and missed by so many. Blessings, Louie and Kathleen Chavis
