I learned just today of the passing of: Michael D. Hicks. Mike, who was

a

loyal childhood friend. My last visit with him was in August of this

year

because I live in California. As I knew he was ill but noticed he still

was/seemed to be “That Loyal Friend”. His laughter was still true and

warm.

Mike had an out look on life that was “Extraordinary”. Have you ever

noticed

how good you feel when you’re around people and friends who seem

enthused

with life? I do. I felt that during my visit with Mike in August. I

don’t

think it’s coincidence either. I believe God planned the world in such

a way

that we would feel good when around the beautiful, the pure, and the

just.

In

fact, I think we can look at our souls as if God programmed two very

opposing

feelings within every human being.

The first called “Cup of Joy”. Whenever we drink from this cup we feel

great,

incredible, and happy. Things that surround us, such as our loved ones,

the

beauty of nature, and the miracle of creation, make us drink from this

cup.

The second called “Cup of Sorrow”. I believe God as done this so we

could

know the difference between “Joy and Sorrow”.

Mike, would want us all to drink from the “Cup of Joy”. To embrace all

life’s

incredible joy and happiness.

A Short Prayer:

God, help us to find the joy in all

that

surrounds us

today. Help us to be mindful of our

creation and the

beauty of being content.
