DEAR MARY AND FAMILY; WE OFFER OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND LOVE, AND PRAY THAT GOD WILL HELP ALL OF YOU THROUGH THIS DIFFICULT TIME. WITH HEART FELT FEELINGS DICK AND NENA BITZER
Dear Velez Family:
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. You experienced an outpouring of family and friends this past week in support of your loss. This support says that Matt was a very “special person”. God bless you and keep you in his healing care.
Dearest Mary, Manny, Mike and Meredith: A friend sent me the news about Matt and I am simply devastated, as I know you all are. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. I love you all and just want you to know that I am thinking of you. Karen
I graduated from St. Michaels with Matt..were I went from Kindergarten to 8th grade with him…I went on to Park and kept all of my friends in my heart…when I heard Matt passed away…I nearly fell to the floor…even though I have not kept in touch with him after St. Michael’s I do remember the closeness of our 8th grade graduating class…we were all like brothers and sisters…I can’t beleive he is gone…He was a special young man…What is weird just last week I decided to go for Elementary Education…So as I finish my junior year and go on to my senior and into college to become a teacher…I will always keep Matt in my heart…Matt..this one is for you my friend! I pray for all of Matts family and loved ones…now God has a very special angel watching down on all of us!
My deepest sympathy,
Elisha Nagle and Family
I had the privelage, along with Jamie Conlin, of coaching Matt in the Pony League in Elm Grove. We fondly referred to Matt as “Chico”. He was a wonderful player with a great sense of humor, and just a pleasure to be around. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Manny and Mary,
Just wanted to extend my condolences. During my short contact with him, I came to know him as a kind, eager young athlete. May God bless Matt, his brother, and parents.
Coach Ricci
Manny and Mary, We want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and that we extend to you our deepest sympathy.
Manny:
My deepest sympathy to you and your wife. I was deeply saddened when I read of the passing of your son. I have prayed for him and for the rest of your family to let the strength of God keep you always. I will keep you in my prayers and hope to see you soon in Wheeling. Your friend and Brother, YITB, Chic
Mary and family:
My deepest sympathy, my prayers are with you. I cannot imagine the pain and loss you are suffering, but I am so sorry. Nina Rutledge from the
Wellness Council
Mary and Manny
I was so sad to hear of your loss. From reading his memorial, I am sure your son lived life as you both do–with love and passion. You must know that that love and passion will live on in the lives of so many others. I am sure you will have many rough times ahead but try always to remember his love of life and his willingness to live it to the fullest.
Much love always,
Sue Dutton Lake
Mary and Manny,
We were so saddened to hear of Matthew’s passing. Words cannot express how we feel. Please know that you have our thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Laura Lee and Mike
Matt will be missed dearly. He was a good friend to many and a cherished member in the CCHS community. Mike, you lost a dear brother. I can only imagine the ordeal you must now go through. I cannot think of what it would be like to loose a brother. Dr. and Mrs. Velez, your son was a good man. You should be proud of the way he lived his life. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all in this time. You have my deepest sympathy. Remember, Matt has only moved beyond our earthly existence, we will all be reunited with him again someday. May the Peace of Christ be with you.
Mike,
Words cannot express what you must be going through. Matt was a great kid and a lot of fun to be around. I remember how he was up all night last New Years at the cabins; him and his friends wouldn’t let anyone fall asleep because they were too busy making everyone laugh. Everyone will miss him. I am also so very sorry that I cannot come home for the funeral. My love and prayers are with you and your family during this most difficult time. If you need anything, you know where to find me!
My dear Mary, Manny, Madelyn and all the Family … My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I was very saddened and shocked to read of Matthew’s death. While I did not know Matthew, I do know and have great regard for the Velez, Keys and Vanyo families. Our shared faith experiences have enriched my life. As I read Matthew’s memorial, it was apparent he followed the Christian examples of his family to love and serve God’s people. I know you are blessed with a deep and abiding faith — that will not only give you great strength at this time but it will also be a great source of strength for the community. God’s light and love will not be hidden, especially in times of grief. We lost two family members this year so I share in your struggle of pain from a great loss and the celebration of life. My faith assures me that Ray, Joe, Marge and all your beloved deceased, along with the angels who watched over Matthew, were waiting to welcome him and take him to the loving presence of our Great God!!! May this give you consolation and peace.
My love to Debbie, Kathy, Jody, Steve and Carol.
Love and peace …
Toni Oliver
To the Velez Family,
Thank you for your beautiful sharings at Matt’s funeral Mass. We were all deeply touched by your sharings.
We our family share your loss and have been praying for you daily.
I want to tell you how I would often see Matt walking down the hall during a class. He would always say hi for he never missed an opportunity to connect. I would often wonder why he was out of class, but he was so pleasant I usually did not bother to ask him. I enjoyed my frequent talks with Matt and miss seeing him in the halls of Central. We will continue to keep you in our prayers. Jeff Smay, Sr.

Matt was a great guy always laughing and smiling. He had a great sense of humor, he was a great athlete, and was always kind to everyone.
