Matt “Pat” Farrier, 87, of Shadyside, OH, died Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born May 11, 1921 in Bellaire, OH, a son of the late John and Teresa Lukos Farrier.

Matt was a retired ironworker with Local #549 Wheeling, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion Post 521 both of Shadyside and was a Navy veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, Matt was preceded in death by a son, Michael, 5 brothers; Steve, Frank, John, Joe and George Farrier, 2 sisters; Helen Moran and Ann Farrier, and 2 grandchildren; Athena Belinda Farrier and Matthew James McMahon.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Viola Williams Farrier, 5 children; Mary McMahon and her husband William of Cadiz, John Farrier and his wife Barbara of Neffs, Matthew Farrier and his wife Wilma of Jacobsburg, Stephen and Joseph Farrier both of Shadyside, 10 grandchildren; William and Danielle McMahon, John and Brianna Farrier, Megan Weber, Taylor Hughes, Matthew T., Kyle, and Ashley Farrier and Bert Kessler, 8 great grandchildren; Matthew, Michael, and Holly McMahon, Zara Harveth, Marissa Weber, Austin Wiggins, Marrisa and Natalie Kessler, and a very special nephew, Barron Farrier of Granville, OH.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at the Bauknecht Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 1:00pm in St. Mary Catholic Church, Shadyside, with Father Samuel Saprano as celebrant.

Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery, with full military graveside honors.

A vigil service will be conducted at 7:30 Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Mary Catholic Church.

John and Barb,

My deepest sympathy go out to you and your family at the loss of John’s father. Having lost my father 4 years ago, it still seems very recent and I understand how hard it can be, no matter what the age or health condidtion.
