Mary M. Yazombek, 94 of Shadyside, OH died Sunday, March29, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 14, 1921 in Lonaconing, MD a daughter of the late August and Christina Ricker Winkler.

Mary was a retired registered nurse at Belmont Community Hospital, Bellaire, OH., a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Women’s Club, American Legion Post # 521 and proudly served as a second lieutenant in the US Army during WWII.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Stanley J. Yazombek in 1999; a stillborn daughter, Regina Yazombek and a brother, Fr. Augustine Winkler.

Surviving are her children, Mary Catherine Robert Loy of Bucyrus, OH., Christina Kent Rasor of West Chester, OH., Joseph Patricia Yazombek of Marietta, OH., Margaret Robert Sall of Shadyside, Patricia Michael Nill of Marietta; two sister-in-laws, Sophie Evans of Bridgeport, OH and Alyce Yazombek of Wheeling, WV; 13 grandchildren, Amanda Loy Mat Ford, John Sylvia Loy, Matthew Loy, Sarah Rasor, Jennifer Chris Courter, Jessica Ben Guggenbiller, Bart Rasor, Beth Sall, Megan Zack Kennan, Chris Sall, Rachel, Andrew and Joseph Nill; two great-grandchildren, Bailey Courter and Gregory Guggenbiller.

Friends will be received Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 4-8 pm at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Ave. Shadyside where full military honors will be conducted at 7:15 pm by the Belmont County Council of American Legions and a vigil service at 7:45 pm.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Shadyside with Fr. Samuel R Saprano as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Schools.

I worked with Mary at BCH for years and always felt that she was so compassionate and caring for patients and staff. She was a delight to work with. Many thoughts and prayers are with her family in this difficult time.

Mary seemed to embody what it truly meant to be a mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Her beauty always radiated from within and just being near her you knew you were in the presence of someone very special. Our sincerest condolences to the entire family.

Wes and I are so sorry for your family’s loss. I know your mom will be missed here on earth but I am sure God has great plans for her in heaven. Not to mention she finally gets to be rejoined with her husband. Sorry we can’t make it to the service please don’t hesitate to call on us for anything.

What an amazing woman your Mom was. I wish I could be there to share stories and celebrate her life with all of you. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. It is such an understatement to say that she will be missed.
