04/07/1935 - 06/03/2015

Mary Louise Lee, born Mary Louise White, passed from this world on June 3, 2015. Louise is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Crawford of Fredericksburg and Laurian Newell of Norfolk, three grandchildren: Kord Crawford Jessi, Elizabeth Crawford Spain Gordon of Fredericksburg and Caroline Newell of Norfolk, and three great grandchildren: Ronan Crawford, Austin Crawford Spain and Mattox Lee Crawford Spain, all of Fredericksburg. Louise is also survived by four sisters: Helen Corley Vernon of Murfreesboro, TN, Ruthe Venable of Sheridan, AR, Linda Melnick Peter of Austin, TX and Karen Atchley of Sheridan, AR, as well as one brother, David Newton White, Jr. Linda of Hot Springs, AR and many nieces and nephews. Louise’s husband of nearly 60 years, Wilbert Robert Lee, Jr Bob predeceased her in April 2014.
Louise was born to Wilma Beatrice Carr White and David Newton White, Sr. on April 7, 1935 in Grant County, AR. She graduated from Sheridan High School in Sheridan, AR before meeting the love of her life, Bob, in Pine Bluff, AR when he was stationed at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.
After Bob left the Army, he and Louise lived in the Florida Keys and along the Gulf of Mexico until the devastation of Hurricane Donna in 1960. At that time, Louise and Bob relocated to Norfolk and eventually moved to Chesapeake.
Though Louise was a Realtor for several years in the 1970’s and 1980’s, she spent most of her adult life as a homemaker. Louise excelled at textile arts and was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Louise used her talents to create unique and beautiful clothing, decorations and comfort to her home as well as within the community by donating her time and talents to many volunteer endeavors including Girl Scouts, the PTA, sewing guilds and more.
Louise was an avid gardener and loved to work in her yard pruning roses and cultivating flowers. She had a big heart and was devoted to her girls, her family and her pets. Louise will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice, her talent to create beauty with the simplest items, as well as her great love for dogs. Her love lives on in her daughters and family.
Family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 929 S Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake on Saturday, June 6 from 4 to 5 p.m. with a short Memorial Service immediately following. Interment will be private at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, where she will once again be with her beloved Bob.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Animal Resources of Tidewater, P.O. Box 11535, Norfolk, VA 23517, or to any no kill animal shelter or animal rescue organization.
