Mary Lou Balabasz

BALABASZ, Marie Louise Mary Lou Gerard, 81, of Chapel Road, Wheeling, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Ohio Valley Medical Center. Mary Lou was born Nov. 21, 1920 in Brussels, Belgium, a daughter of the late Victor and Bertha VanDaele Gerard. After moving from Belgium in 1952, Mary Lou lived in Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Zanesville, Ohio, before moving to Wheeling. She was a member of the
P.T.A., Elks, Eagles and an election officer in Buffalo, N.Y., and was Greek Orthodox by faith. In addition to her parents , she was preceded in death by her sister, Mariette Fiorilli. Surviving are her husband, Alexander Balabasz, whom she was married to in 1957 in Buffalo; a daughter, Nadia Balabasz Ryan and her husband Michael of Buffalo; a son, Michael Balabasz and his wife Elana of Buffalo; a brother-in-law, Anthony Fiorilli; nephews and nieces, James Fiorilli, David Fiorilli and his wife Joyce, Victoria Henry, Thomas Fiorilli and his wife Patricia, Michael Fiorilli and his wife Cindy, Anthony Fiorilli and his wife Dana; great-nieces and nephews, Jordan and Max and three step grandchildren, Michael, Patrick and Gregory. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling. Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
