Dear Larry:

I was so sorry to hear of your motherís death. You are in my thoughts.

Even at such a sad time, my memories of your home put a smile on my face. Your house overflowed with joy and love. And, I always felt so welcome there.

Both of your parents had such an influence on me ñ my goals, my dreams, the expectations I set for myself. Your father was the consummate professional. On reflection, I think that I subconsciously adopted him as my standard.

And your mom was his equal in every way. She was a mother to me, and Namo, and probably every other kid that you or your sibs brought home.

I always knew that she was in my corner, as much as yours, when we went through the ìgreat traumaî.

As I said, you are in my thoughts, and although they are sad ones, I am grateful for the memories and the smiles.

Your friend always,

Bill Miller,

Chicago

Harold,Patty,Ruth,,,,and to Mary’s entire family,,, As a neighborhood “brat” growing up, and constantly invading your home with a half dozen or more coming and going ,,I always marveled at how your mother kept her cool ,was always smiling,,never seemed to have a cross word for anything we did,,,,having a house full of her own,,,and dealing with our “gang” of misfits day in and day out,,,,,makes me smile when i remember her. My deepest sympathies,,,,David Turner

Jane and all,

I have known few women who balanced love of family, home, community, and faith as well as your mother.

I think she planted that in every girl that was in her scout troop, along with the knowledge that life is full of limitless possibilities, even if it is NOT full of limitless moments in the day.

I think of her often, and just last week, I was scanning negatives from childhood photos and realizing how many times she is there, in the background, and how grateful I am to have had her as a model in my life.

What an extraordinary woman your mother was.I don’t think we truly appreciate many of the people who were in our lives until they are gone and we are left with our memories. With all she had to do in her life she gave so generously of her time, and always in a kind way. We had so many great times in Girl Scouts and your house was a home away from home for all of your friends and she always made everyone feel welcome. Few people in todays fast paced world are willing to share so freely of their time. It isn’t until we have families of our own that we realize how much our own mothers did for all of us. She was truly a beautiful person. You are all in my prayers.
