Mark Wood Edwards
NORFOLK- Mark Wood Edwards, 81, passed away Jan. 12, 2008, surrounded by friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents, William J. and Ruby Spencer Edwards, as well as his brother, William S. Edwards.
Mark was born in Norfolk on July 29, 1926. He attended Norview High School until he was called to duty to serve in the U.S. Navy during WW II. After the war, he and fellow veterans completed high school at Maury. In his youth, Mark was a member of Norview United Methodist Church; later, he attended Christ the King Catholic Church and Coleman Place Presbyterian Church.
Mark worked for VEPCO for 36 years. He enjoyed fishing, softball, and relaxing at his cottage in Kitty Hawk. Later in life, he especially enjoyed the company of friends met walking at Military Circle.
Mark is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Roseberry Edwards; son Mark Wood Edwards, Jr. and wife Dorothy Lawless Edwards; and grandchildren Erin Spencer Edwards, Seth Lawless Edwards, Andrew Hemingway Edwards and Sara Margaret Wood Edwards; as well as many well-loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Greenwich Rd. Chapel, on Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 1 p.m., with a reception at the church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to Catholic Charities of Hampton Roads.

I’m truly sorry that we are unable to attend the funeral of Uncle Mark, but our thoughts and prayers are sent with love to all the family. Hope to be able to visit in the spring. I have fond memories of Uncle Mark. I don’t think I’ll ever forget his humor and laughter.
