December 6, 1944 - May 22, 2015

12/06/1944 - 05/22/2015

Chesapeake – Margaret S. Scott, of Deep Creek, died May 22, 2015. Margaret was born in South Mills, NC, the daughter of the late William “Bill” Knowles and Hazel O’Kelly Knowles. Margaret was a retired painter, having owned and operated Deep Creek Painting Company for 20 years. She attended Deep Creek High School and was a member of Lake Drummond Baptist Church. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Robert C. “Bobby” Scott. She is survived by her daughters Susan Rogers and her husband Kevin of Chesapeake, Christine Wheatley and her husband Keith of Virginia Beach, and the most important person in her life, her granddaughter, Sydney Wheatley. Margaret is further survived by brothers and sisters including, Jean Pfaehler, Charlsie Knowles, Virginia Williams, Ray Knowles, James Knowles and Pete Knowles and his wife Katy, all of Chesapeake, William “Buddy” Knowles and wife Phyllis and John “Buck” Knowles of South Mills, NC; Betty Lewis and her husband John of Hughesville, MD; and Paul Knowles and his wife Dale, of Suffolk. Margaret is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Margaret was a plain spoken, “country” woman who was devoted to her family. She loved simple things in life like eating a Hardee’s biscuit, buying unnecessary from QVC, and watching videos of old school musicians like The Temptations on YouTube. She worked tirelessly as a younger woman, painting new homes for a local builder, proving she could handle a “man’s job” and took great pride in her work. She was the kind of mother who worked all day in the summer heat and left work at day’s end to stop at the mall and buy the last two tickets to The Police concert and surprise her daughters with them. She was the kind of grandmother who loved her girl Sydney as if she were her own child. The relationship shared by the two of them was loving, open, and genuine. They were not only family, they were best friends.
Her smile will be missed, her laugh will be missed, her hugs and kisses will be missed, and her I love you’s will be missed.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Beth Shalom Village in Virginia Beach, and to Dr. Paula Carr for their impeccable care of Margaret.
Following her wishes, Margaret will be cremated and no public services will be held. Condolences may be expressed to the family at altmeyer.com.
