Platt, Marcella G. Dierkes, 78, formerly of Fairmont Avenue, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, in Weirton Medical Center. Marcella was born May 5, 1923, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Frederick and Anna Held Dierkes. She was a homemaker and a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, Wheeling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Platt in 1975; two sisters, Madelyne Lotz and Marie Dierkes. Surviving are a son, Donald L. Platt and his wife, Janet of Wheeling; two daughters, Lois Dillon and her husband, James of Martins Ferry and Marleen Miller and her husband, Chuck of Wheeling; a brother, Frank Dierkes and his wife, Stella of Bethlehem; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. H. Joseph Wilhelm as celebrant. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
