BLACK, Major E., Sr., 78, of Wheeling, died Monday, March 31, 2008 in Acuity Specialty Hospital, Steubenville, Ohio.

Major was born November 25, 1929 in Dunham, Ky., a son of the late Manuel and Julia Hayes Emery. He was retired from Ohio Valley Medical Center and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Wheeling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie R. Peoples Black in 1984; a daughter, Maryann Black in 2007; and three sisters, Gladys Milliken, Jeanette Black and Grace Hunter.

Surviving are three children, Major E. Black, Jr. of Wheeling, Robert D. Black of Wheeling and Jules V. Black of Jacksonville, Fla.; close friend and companion, Shirley Frazier King of Wheeling; a brother, Marion Black and his wife, Barbara of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Robert A. and Austin R. Black; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Thursday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling.

Friends will then be received from 9 am until time of funeral service at 11 am, Friday, April 4, 2008 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Wheeling, with the Pastor Albert K. Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Stone Church Cemetery, Wheeling.
