NEWPORT NEWS – Mable A. Hodnett passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Riverside Regional Convalescent Center in Newport News.
A lifelong resident of Newport News, she was a graduate of Newport News High School in the Class of 1943 when she was also known as Mable Ann Daniel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Bella Quintal; a sister, Ann Hogge; and a son, Otis Howard Hodnett III.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Newport News, and the Lafayette Payne Sunday School Class. She was a member of the American Legion Post 25 Auxiliary and the HVPR of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Fond memories and good friends were developed when she worked at Noland Company in Newport News. Mable had a zest for life and brought smiles to all who knew and loved her humor and love of friends and family.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Otis Howard Hodnett Jr.; a son, Jerry W. Allen and wife, Judy, of Newport News; granddaughters, Kelly Brown of Newport News and Lisa Hodnett of New Mexico; and grandsons, Jason Hodnett and Caleb Hodnett of New Mexico; a nephew, Joseph E. Saunders and wife, Erika; five great-grandchildren; three grand-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation is set for Monday, Jan. 7, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 7415 River Road, Newport News, VA 23607. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at First Baptist Church, 12716 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be sent to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church.
