Thatcher, Loyal "Gilbert", 77, of Garvins Lane, Wheeling, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003 at Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital, Wheeling. Gilbert was born Nov. 7, 1925 in East Liverpool, Ohio, a son of the late Lawson U. and Goldia V. Long Thatcher. He was retired from Keller Glove Co., Martins Ferry, Ohio; a Protestant by faith; an avid fisherman; and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father Marshall Brownlee; three sisters, Emily Geleno, Dorothy Conner, and Elsie Hayes; a step-brother, Malcolm Brownlee; and a nephew, Donald Conner. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Mary A. "Sue" Heil Thatcher; two sisters-in-law, Helena Heil of Mozart and Pauline Heil of Akron, Ohio; a nephew, Ernest Conner and his wife, Phyllis, of Bethlehem, WV; two very good neighbors, John and Karen Garvin of Wheeling; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003 with pastor William Kurz officiating. Entombment will be in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1409 Chapline St., Wheeling.
