Louise Beatrice Schmidt

April 19, 1929 - May 4, 2015

04/19/1929 - 05/04/2015

Louise was born Louise Beatrice Whitmore in New Jersey to Frederick Whitmore and Ruth Kagen Whitmore. She had two brothers, Charles and Frederick, and a sister, Mary. She grew up and married Leo Wilson Schmidt on May 10, 1947. They were married for 60 years. Louise stayed home and raised seven children who then kept the line going: Leo wife Pamela, Warren wife Susan, Frederick wife Patricia, Joseph wife Regina, Gary wife Rebecca, Darleen husband Ricky, and Kevin. Her children gave her 17 grandchildren: Leo, Sean, Warren Jr, James, Christopher, Tara, Frederick Jr, Tiffany, Louis, Danielle, Joseph Jr, Alyssa, Gary Jr, Stephanie, Dawn, Nicole, and Ciera. The grandchildren were followed by 32 great grandchildren: Cassaundra, Alexis, Shannon, Sean II, Shania, Shane, Tara, Joshua, Milan, Hudson, Lila, Taylor, Ethan, Roman, Ashleigh, Lucy, Layton, Susan, Brody, Audree, Baylee, Monica, Aviana, Frederick, Brayden, Quinn, Kylie, Joseph, Dae, Jaida, Abby, Wyatt. Louise became a Great Great Grandmother with the birth of Annelise, and Faith on her way. The grandkids called her by different names, Grandma, Grams, and G.G., they loved her and she loved them.

Louise and Leo lived most of their lives in New Jersey. After her husband Leo retired, they moved to Pennsylvania where they became active members in the Portland Ambulance Corp.

After the death of her husband in 2007, Louise moved in with her oldest son in Virginia where she spent her last days just enjoying life. She enjoyed going on field trips to museums, shows, local events, fairs, and dinners with friends. She was always the life of the party. At home she liked doing puzzle books, working on crafts, and even learned to use a tablet computer. Her grandkids gave her great joy when they came to visit.

Louise was mobile up until the end. She did not use a walker nor a cane, and could walk up short flights of stairs. She died peaceably in her sleep at home in her own bed.

To all the family, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Grandma will be missed. I walk into places and the smell reminds me of grandma’s house and the time I spent there as a kid. I hope to continue the love of word puzzle books with my children as she shared them with us. Rest in peace Grandma and say hi to Pop-pop for me. Love you.

What fun hearing Louise sing-a-long at some of our music shows that Pamela helped organize.

Louise especially liked the Christmas songs. And what a fantastic picture she took with The Singing Santa Claus this past Christmas 2014. So Dear Louise, “keep singing!” and join right in with those angels around the Throne of GLORY. Millie Harris
