Lester M. Burch, 93 of Glen Dale, WV, died on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
He was the son of the late Walter Walk and Geneva Burch of McMechen, WV.
Lester graduated from Union High School, where he later taught machine shop class. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1941, where he served as Machinist Mate First Class and continued to serve his country by joining the Naval Reserves.
Along with his father and brothers, he worked for W.W. Burch and Sons, Inc. General Contractors and attended refrigeration school in Pittsburgh, PA, before becoming employed at Allied Chemical Plant in New Martinsville, WV.
In 1977, Lester and his wife started their business, Burch Air Conditioning and Heating, where he continued active employment until his late 80’s. Following retirement, he continued his hobby of wood working until the age of 90.
In addition to his parents, Lester is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Allegra “Tiny” Burch; three brothers, Layman, Nelson and Walter “Buddy” Burch; and a sister, Norma Fetty.
Surviving are his sons, D. Walker Patti Burch of Glen Dale; and Tucker Burch of Florida; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends received 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013 with Rev. Glen Baker Jr. officiating.
Interment with military honors in Greenlawn Cemetery, New Martinsville, WV.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I cut your Dads hair for years. He was always a gentleman and always made me laugh. Also, found out he had known my Dad & Grandfather. Sending my sympathy, thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Lester. I so enjoyed working with the family as did my father Frank Jefferson. The family business was always right there for us in our times of “heat crisis” and Lester’s humor will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
