DeGASPERIS, Loreto M. “Larry D.”, 86, of Wheeling, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 in Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling.
Larry was born January 9, 1922 in Sora, Italy, a son of the late Vincenzo and Grazia Rontondi DeGasperis.
He was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Benwood Plant; former owner/operator of Larry’s Sundown Club, Wheeling; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart; a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wheeling; and former member of the American Legion, Post No. 46, Benwood; the Cave Club; the West Virginia Snakes Club, Wheeling; the Sons of Italy, Bellaire and the Vets Club, Warwood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delfina C. DeGasperis in 2006; two sons, Larry and Robert DeGasperis; and a brother, Dominic, DeGasperis
Larry is survived by his three sons, Ronald M. DeGasperis and his wife, Marlene of Wheeling, Michael A. DeGasperis and his wife, Lynn of Martins Ferry, Ohio and Mario V. DeGasperi and his wife, Patricia of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Denine M. Moses and her husband, Gary of Wheeling and Gina L. Barnes and her husband, Richard of Ventura, Calif.; a brother, Armando DeGasperis of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Orlanda Paolucci of Baltimore, Md. and Sparanza Barr of Martins Ferry; two daughters-in-law, Patty DeGasperis of Elm Grove and Vasana DeGasperis of Denver, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2-8 pm, Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, December 15, 2008 at St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling, with the Very Rev. Kevin Quirk as celebrant. Entombment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Wheeling, with full military honors provided by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center, 125 18th Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.

I was sorry to read that Larry had passed. We owned a pizza shop near Larrys home and he would get his pizza at least once aweek. When he came in he always had time to chat and we enjoyed hearing his stories. I am sorry for your loss your father was a kind man.
