Wilson, Kermit H., 90, of Sherrard, WV, formerly of Canoga Park, CA, died Saturday, November 9, 2013 in Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling, WV.
He was born September 29, 1923 in Sherrard, a son of the late Charles and Laura Fisher Wilson. He was a member of the Allen Grove Presbyterian Church.
Kermit was a graduate of Sherrard High School and studied Mechanical Engineering at McCoy College, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
He was a Corporal in the 816th Air Engineering Squadron of the 491st Bombardment Group of the 8th Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Corps, North Pickenham Air Field, Norfolk County, England during WWII. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Unit Badge, and a bronze and silver star.
Kermit was a retired Design Drafting Engineer at Lockheed Martin and Northrop-Grumman Corporation.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed traveling, backpacking, fishing, hunting and sports. Kermit will always be remembered for his expertise in gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Claire Wilson and Vera Gilmore; a brother, Clifton Wilson.
Surviving are nine nieces and nephews, Mark Marguerite Wilson of Glen Dale, WV, Ron Carola Wilson of Dunkirk, MD, Marianne Pat Philipps of Glen Dale, David Elsie Gilmore of Baraboo, WI, Sylvia Robert Jeffries of Bloomingdale, IN, Charles Thaya Gilmore of Orem, UT, Daniel Sharon Gilmore of Marietta, GA, Donald Ann Gilmore of Springville, AL, and Stephen Gilmore of Maryville, TN; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received from 4-7 pm Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, where services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 15, 2013, with Kermit’s nephew, Rev. David Gilmore officiating.
Interment will follow at Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Allen Grove Presbyterian Church, Sherrard.
