Every once in a while, if we are extremely fortunate, we encounter someone who makes a profound impact for good on the lives of those around them. Kitty Hammond is one of those people. So long as we remember her and try to honor her tenets “Sing it like you know it!” “You’re loose at both ends and tied in the middle!” “Bless your bones!”, she will remain with us. I love you, Babe. Keep ’em all straightened out up There!

I cried when I got the news of her death. She was a part of Toronto and the high school. Toronto High School was HER life for so many years. Who could EVER forget Miss Hammond and Mr. Hughes?? She was always spoken of with love and fond memories. She was part of the heritage of those who went to school in the 50’s, 60’s, and even into the 70’s. She remembered everyone–could always recall names; amazing woman. Oh how she will be missed. . .

I’ll “Never Forget” my freshman day

orientation at Toronto High School.

Miss Hammond walked up to me, and said, ” I know who you are, because

I was Dean of Girls when your momma

and her family were in high school with me. So, Jo ole buddy, you won’t

be getting away with Anything for the next four years!” She was right!

I Didn’t! I’ll miss “our talks” that

we would have at The Homecoming reunions and in the grocery stores!

She said her Charm bracelet from Ernie Troski was “the only thing she

wanted young Don Clarke to make sure

was on her wrist,” when it was her time to go! How Happy I am, “that I

am one of the ones,” to go Home with her! Special Thoughts and

prayers during this time of loss. “Good night, Miss Kitty……”

So sorry to hear about “Miss Kitty”. I have such good memories of her, both as my Dean of Girls in High School, and as a member of the Toronto Community Concert Band.
