Karl E. Smith, age 76, of RD 4, Moundsville, WV, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at his residence.
He was a former bricklayer with the Seabright Construction Company of Wheeling, and was a retired maintenance planner with the former Mobay Chemical Company of Moundsville.
He was a member of the Third Marine Division during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds recieved during the action on the island of Guam.
He was a member of the Washington Lands United Methodist Church, Moundsville; the Washington Lands Lions Club; and the American Legion Earl Francis Post No. 3, Moundsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie E. and Jenny Marie Crow Smith; a brother, Charles Smith; and a sister, Vivian Barker.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Burkhart Smith; a son, Karl Richard Smith and his wife, Samra, of Bellaire, OH; two daughters, Cindi Marie Smith of Hollywood, FL, and Melissa Ann Troy and her husband Michael of Keysville, VA; four grandchildren, Richard Lynn Smith of Cincinnati, OH, Robyn Kay Smith of Statesville, NC, Andrew Michael Troy and Megan Ann Troy, both of Keysville, VA; a great-grandson, Brenden Hunter Smith of Bellaire, OH; and several nieces and nehphews.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, WV, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. David E. Grueser officiating. Interment will follow in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard, WV.

To the family of Mr. Karl E. Smith,I am writing this letter to give my condolences concerning mr. Karl Smith.
Even though this is a sad time we all can take great comfort from the Bible at Revelation 21:4 when it saids,and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.
