VIRGINIA BEACH- Jutta Marianne Loewenbach, 72, passed away on July 15, 2006. Mrs. Loewenbach was formerly of Newton, New Jersey where she taught French and German in Newton High School. She then went on to work as a lab technician in Newton Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Temple Beth-El in Norfolk, Virginia where she formerly served in the Sisterhood. She was a Past President of the Sisterhood of The Jewish Center of Sussex County in Newton, New Jersey. Mrs. Loewenbach was a member of the Holocaust Commission. She was a volunteer for the Be A Reader Literacy Program with the Jewish Federation of Tidewater and was a Friendly Visitor for Jewish Family Services of Tidewater.

When her husband brought her from Germany to the United States, she became a ski instructor in Vernon, New Jersey at Great Gorge. She is survived by her husband, Hanns Loewenbach; three children, Miriam Becker and husband Steven; Ben Lars Loewenbach; and Dr. Gail Sobel and husband Richard; six grandchildren, Jesse, Haley, and Dean Sobel and Alan, Rachel and David Becker.

A funeral service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462, on Monday, July 17, 2006 at 10:30am with Rabbi Arthur Ruberg officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia. The family will be sitting Shiva at 1049 College Park Boulevard #311, Virginia Beach.
