Joyce Wethkamp Seaman, 80, passed away November 11, 2008 at Mary Immaculate Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January10, 1928 to Henry and Mary Wethkamp in Bayport , New York . She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her grandson, James A. Thompson.

Surviving her are her sons, Henry W. Seaman and J. Gill Seaman; her daughter, Cheryl A. Thompson and husband, Leonard; and her granddaughter, Johnna Lea Backus and husband, David. Also surviving Joyce are her sister, Mebby W. Banaszak and two nieces.

Joyce retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation after 27 years where she served as executive secretary to the Chairman of the Board and the President of the foundation, Carlisle Humelsine.

Joyce was devoted to her family, her friends, and her church. She was a member of St. Jerome ‘s Catholic Church. She was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas , Court of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. As a member of this organization, she served in numerous offices. At her death, Joyce was the 1st Vice Regent for the state of Virginia . Joyce was a devoted volunteer at Mary Immaculate Hospital where she volunteered for over 28 years and was on the 5000-6000 Hour List of volunteers.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13 from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at the Denbigh Chapel of Altmeyer Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 14 at 1:00 PM at St. Jerome ‘s Catholic Church, 116 Denbigh Blvd. , Newport News . It will be officiated by Father Joseph Majewski. Interment will be at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery , Coram, Long Island , NY at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of Altmeyer Funeral Home – Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA. 23608.
