Joseph P. Maurer 75 of Beallsville, Ohio formerly of Shadyside, Ohio and Forest Heights, Maryland died Monday May 12, 2008 at his home.

He was born July 30, 1932 in Bellaire, Ohio a son of the late Joseph Maurer and the late Lucille Accrocco Sanfilippo.

He was a retired operations manager for the Ram Custom Services, Inc. of Churchton, Maryland. While living in Forest Heights he served on the City Council from May 1994 to September 2001, the last few months as Council President. Joe graduated from Shadyside High School Class of 1951. He was a member of the Beallsville United Methodist Church, VFW Post 5565 of Powhatan Point and American Legion Post 768 of Beallsville. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Claire McVay Maurer, whom he married on September 3, 1954, one son, Edward Maurer of Lusby, Maryland, a stepgrandson, Nicholas Cappetta serving in the US Navy, one sister, Brenda Maurer Hickson of Independence, Missouri, sister-in-law, Jean Richard Turner and brother-in-law, John Tammy Lee McVay all of Beallsville, Ohio. Also several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 186 Main Street Powhatan Point, Ohio on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm where services will be held on Friday at 11 am with Pastor Tina Gallaher officiating. Interment in the Powhatan Cemetery in Powhatan Point, Ohio with Full Military Honors conducted by the VFW and American Legion.

VFW and American Legion services will be held on Thursday at 7 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Beallsville United Methodist Church or the Valley Hospice of Rayland, Ohio.
