Joseph Gutherz

Virginia Beach – Joseph Gutherz passed away August 3, 2008. Born in Poland, he was the son of the late Yaakov and Chaya Gutherz. Joseph was a member of Temple Ohef Sholom.

Joseph served as Cantor of the Mayfield Temple in Cleveland, OH, and of Temple Brith Kodesh and Temple Beth David in Rochester, NY.

A lifelong member of B’Nai Brith, Joe was a person who volunteered in numerous organizations, generous with his time to those who needed him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Ruth; two sons, Dan Gutherz of New Haven, CT, and Tom Gutherz and his wife Carmi of Charlottesville, VA; and three grandchildren, Ilan, David, and Tamar.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd in Virginia Beach with Rabbi Rosalin Mandelberg officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered to the family at altmeyer.com.

Ruth and Family,

My prayers and sympathy are with you all at this time of loss. I was so glad to have seen Joe the other day at my office Ruth. Joe was a great guy and I was glad to have known him all these years. He always had a great story.
