John R. Doty Jr., 86, of Belmont, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at home.
He was born April 14, 1928, in Moundsville, W. Va., a son of the late John and Marie Games Doty. John served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, the U.S. Marines during the Korean War, and later went on to become a Federal Coal Mine Inspector. He was very active in The American Legion and the VFW, as well as the Eagles and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of the Freemasons. He enjoyed going to the Wheeling Casino and loved scratch off tickets.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Georgie Doty 2012, who was a devoted member of The American Legion Auxiliary, held several offices, and received the Timeless Award; and one grandson, Thomas John.
John is survived by his daughters; Jennifer Clark, Joyce Paul Hunter, Kathy Bob Pettit, and Kathy Scot; his sons, Tom Rosa, Jeff Kathy, Bill, Jay Donna, and Joe Ginny; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Interment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later time and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the VFW Post 437, 114 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV 26041 or to The American Legion Post 3, 800 First Street, Moundsville, WV 26041.
