DIEHL, John Robert 71, of High Street, Benwood, died Tuesday February 24, 2004 at his home.
John was born June 12, 1932 in Wheeling, a son of the late Elmer F. and Anna Heffron Diehl.
He was a retired roofer for Mansuetto Roofing, was a member of St. James Catholic Church, McMechen, where he was a former altar server and was a U.S. Army and Marine Veteran of the Korean War. He was also a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Cave Club, Wheeling and Alcoholics Anonymous.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Diehl and two sisters, Mary Swanek and Catherine Diehl.
Surviving are his loving wife of 34 years, Patricia Ann Olnick Diehl; a daughter, Michelle Nolan and her husband Jerry of Bridgeport; three sons, Harold Gregory Olnick of Richmond, VA, Paul Ishmel McCombs of Milwaukee, WI and Isaac Newton McCombs of Wheeling; a brother, Charles E. Diehl of Wheeling; four sisters, Anna Kohler and her husband Charles of McMechen, Agnes Miller and her husband John of Elm Grove, Jacqueline Hunt of Wheeling and Dolores Grzben and her husband Daniel of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, Jerry Jr., Sean, Gabrielle and Nicholas Nolan and several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all.
Friends will be received from 7-9 pm Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, where a vigil service will be held at 3:45 pm Friday.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, February 28, 2004 at St. James Catholic Church, McMechen, with the Rev. Joseph Hayden S.J. as celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either St. James Catholic Church, McMechen or Valley Hospice.
