John J. Sevcik, 78, of Wheeling, WV, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born Dec. 17, 1924 at Benwood, WV, son of the late Thomas and Susan Suchak Sevcik.
He was retired from Wheeling Machine Products; a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wheeling; Elm Grove Civics, a former president of United Steel Workers of America, Local 1290 and an army veteran of World War ll.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel M. Sevcik; and a sister, Mary Guldan.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Eleanor A. Brosh Sevcik; a daughter, Sister Linda Sevcik, S.M. of Mundelein, Ill.; a son, Larry E. Sevcik of Wheeling; a daughter, Brenda S. Mueggenborg and her husband, larry, of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Diane M. Sevcik of Colorado Springs, CO.; a daughter, Elaine R. Manning of Delaware, Ohio; a daughter, Christine S. Cooke and her husband, Michael, of Solon, Ohio; two brothers, Joseph Sevcik and his wife, Ann of Bridgeport, Ohio, Edward Sevcik and his wife, Pat, of Mahopac, NY.; two sisters, Helen Guldan of Bethlehem, Wheeling, Ann Gorghan and her husband Paul, of Cocoa Beach, FL.; eight grandchildren, Lara and Brad Mueggenborg of Salt Lake City, Stephanie, Ashley and Craig Manning of Delaware, Marissa, Dylan and Evan Cooke of Solon; several nieces and nephews.
Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling, where vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. H. Joseph Wilhelm, S.M. as celebrant. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Neighborhood Center, 125 – 18th Street, Wheeling.
