Calmbacher, John Emerson, 78, of McMechen, WV, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.
He was born June 4, 1929 in Wheeling, a son of the late John W. and Thelma Britton Calmbacher. John was a retired employee of Cook Motor Lines with 30 years of service. He was retired form the U. S. Army with 26 years of military service. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Boggs Run, the Teamsters Union for 30 years, the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, the American Legion Post #5, McMechen, and the Bridgeport Eagles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward J. Calmbacher; his sister, Alice J. Steele; and his faithful dog, Brandy
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ellen Howard Calmbacher; a son, Larry J. Calmbacher and his wife, Dianna, of Tallahassee, FL; two daughters, Kathyn Boyajian and her husband, Geoff, of St. Petersburg, FL and Lisa Miller and her husband, Brian, of Westfield, IN; a brother, Russell J. Calmbacher of Wheeling; two step-sons, Todd R. Crow and his wife, Kellie, of Moundsville, WV and Brian E. Crow of McMechen; a step-daughter, Bonnie Jo Minger and her husband, Jack, of Colliers, WV; thirteen grandchildren.
Friends received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, WV, where services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 12, 2008 with Pastor Mary Prather officiating.
Entombment in Halcyon Hills Mausoleum, Sherrard, WV.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Benwood.

Dear Barbara

I am not sure you will remember me, but I always visit Betty, your next door neighbor. I am sorry to hear that Jack has passed away. Please treasure your memories and remember the good times. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

I met John at Green’s Donuts and enjoyed talking with him and his wife Barbara. They were part of a great bunch of people that had coffee and conversed about all kinds of things. John will be missed terribly. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I served with John in thearmy i retired with twenty five years first sergeant God bless the family as John will always be remembered as God has taken him to serve him noow.

Kathy, So sorry to hear about your Dad. I won’t be able to make it to the funeral home but my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. It’s hard to believe how many years it has been since we both lived in Goosetown. I have very fond memories of the times we all had growing up there. I would love hearing from you.
