DEAN, John D., 92, of Wheeling, WV, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital. Born in Wheeling on October 14, 1917, John was the son of the late Roy and Clara Dean. He was a Catholic by Faith and was a retired employee of Ohio County Schools. John was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. He was the oldest living member of the Snake Club, a member of the Wheeling Eagles Aerie #344 for more than 60 years and was an avid golfer. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Pockl Dean in 1974; his daughter, Joyce Riding: his brother, Lohman Dean; one sister, Thelma Brooks. Surviving are one daughter, Cathy Lemmons and her husband Toby of Glen Dale WV; his loving companion, Dorothy Miller of Wheeling; one sister, Mary Denham and her husband Cliff of Wheeling; 6 grandchildren, Chuck Lemmon, Chris Lemmon and his wife Stacie, Chad Lemmon and his wife Michelle, Matt Riding and his wife Joanie, Eric Riding and his wife Tammy and Adam Riding; 9 great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove WV, on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Vigil service will be held at 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday at St Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling. Interment will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery.
