CHESAPEAKE – John Allen Sparks, Jr., 86, of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away, Thursday, August 29, 2013 at his home. John was born November 29, 1926 in Raleigh, NC to John Allen Sparks, Sr. and Ruth Robbins. He graduated from South Norfolk High School and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. On January 5, 1947, he married Margaret Elizabeth Williams, and they remained happily married for over 66 years to the day of his death. Mr. Sparks was also a Christian believer and active member of Good Hope United Methodist Church in Chesapeake.
He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret Elizabeth Sparks; three children, Cynthia Williams Sparks, John Allen Sparks III, Nathan Marvin Sparks and his wife, Lorelei; sister, Carolyn Wellons; niece, Peggy Welsh; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Good Hope United Methodist Church, 1633 Benefit Road, Chesapeake, and burial services will follow in the church cemetery. The family will also receive friends and relatives at the Church Monday from 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Hope United Methodist Church Missions. Margaret, John & Cindy have been close friends for many, many years. John will truly be missed during our time walking this earth. We hope to see him in Heaven when it comes our time to pass. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help during this time of sorrow.

To Margaret, Cindy, John and Nathan, I am deeply sorry for the loss of your husband and father, John. He was a wonderful person that never bore an ill thought towards anyone. I felt blessed to have him as a father in law. Knowing how sick he was, I know you will all find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace and Home.

To Margaret, Cindy, John and Nathan, I am deeply sorry for your loss in John.

He was a wonderful human being with never an ill thought towards anyone.

I was glad to have him for a father in law. Knowing how much he suffered so with his health, take comfort in the fact that he is home.
