John A. Duggan

John A. Duggan, 94, of Triadelphia died February 10, 2014 at home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Burgettstown, Washington County, PA to Stanislaw & Theresa Dziedzic Duggan on October 12, 1919 and lived in a number of towns in the Ohio Valley until settling on the Farm where he built the home for his family in 1952.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Joseph, Frank, Walter and Adam and three sisters, Carolyn Duggan, Mildred Mamula of Moundsville and Martha Hansley of Wilmington, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anne Karnell and three sons: Mark of Wheeling, Jonathan and wife Nora, and James and wife Wendy of Triadelphia. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Dorothy Duggan of Wheeling, Jean Duggan of Follansbee and brother-in-law Nick Mamula of Moundsville, also by many nieces and nephews.
He was an active member of the Wheeling Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. For decades he would spend evenings and Sunday afternoons visiting people in Ohio County, sharing his faith in God’s Kingdom and teaching the Bible.
John was a carpenter by trade and worked for his brother-in-law, Nick Karnell, building homes in the Wheeling area and became a member of Carpenter’s Union #3 of Wheeling in the 1960’s. Some of the projects he worked on included the I-70 and I-470 bridges in Wheeling, the Mitchell Power Plant in Moundsville and the Coppers coke plant in Follansbee.
He also loved farming and growing a garden each summer. John loved to work and instilled that work ethic in his sons.
The family would like to thank the Wheeling, Washington and Canonsburg congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses for all their support during John’s long illness. The family would also like to thank the following persons/organizations: Dr. James Comerci and his staff, Dr. Christian Sonnefeld and his staff, Amedisys Hospice especially Chastidy Butler, Select Home Care and Bishop Hodges Continuous Care and all the staff of these organizations who took such good care of John. Also thanks to Robert Fitzsimmons, David Croft, Jack Felton, Andy McKenzie and Mike Riedel.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, February 15th at 4:00 pm at the Wheeling Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2090 Angle Avenue , Wheeling, WV 26003, phone 304.243.9881. All are welcome to attend and benefit from the Biblical hope that John held dear throughout his life.
