Dear McDermott Family, We’re very sorry to hear of your loss. We moved into the neighbor in the early 1990 and each time he saw us he greeted us with a smile and a wave. We remember his kindness, he was always feeding the birds and it amazed us at how many birds came knowing they would be taken care of by him. One summer my husband and I were carrying a picnic table about the house and he saw us. Immediately he was at my side telling me that was too heavy for me to carry he would take my side, he and my husband finished moving the table. He was a real gentleman!

For a man and fellow sailor I’ve never met, I know so much about you as seen through Missy’s eyes. She was very proud of you and always spoke kindly of you. She and the rest of your loved ones will sorely miss you. I was looking forward to meeting you this Thanksgiving. I guess I’ll have to wait until God recalls me too. Rest well dear sailor, you deserve it! My condolenses family!

I could not have asked for a more loving and giving PapPap. He comforted me when others couldn’t. He was always there for me with a kind word or with his words of wisdom. It seemed like it was always sunny with PapPap,even on the cloudiest of days..He made everything right. I love you my dear PapPap and I am sad we didn’t have more time to spend together, but thankful to the good Lord that He took you in His loving arms, and now you can rest and enjoy all the pleasures of Heaven and be in the company of all the family and friends that have gone before us. I love you PapPap.Thank you for EVERYTHING. And may God bless our family at this very difficult time.

I still can’t believe how much I miss you…every hour of every day. I want you to still be with me, even though I know deep down that–even though you may not be with me physically–you are with me ever as constant as you always were. I love you, unconditionally, and if I am ever blessed enough to have a son, I PROMISE he will bear your name, in great honor. I love you, Pappap.

“And I will know in my heart that I shall see you again and we will dance, sing, hug, laugh, love and praise together, but the beautiful thing is, we will never cry together again.”

My poor words can not communicate what a great man my grandfather was. He was my Pappap, my godfather, my friend, my hero, and I will miss him for the rest of my life, but I happily await a time when we can be together again. I love you Pappap.

To the family, I am so sorry for your loss. Jerry was a sweet man. I still remember as if it were yesterday, every morning that I would stand in my driveway, waiting for my school bus. He would be heading out of his house and he would wave good-bye with a big smile on his face. My parents and I will miss seeing him out next door. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
