JEROME “JERRY” RYAN
VIRGINIA BEACH- Jerome “Jerry” Ryan, 83, passed away on May 11, 2015. He was born in New York to the late James and Marcella Ryan. Jerome served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and was an avid bridge player.
Jerome is survived by his wife, Judy Ryan; four children, Maureen Ventrice and husband John, Ken Ryan, Jerry Ryan and wife Masumi, and Judy Ryan; and three grandchildren, Nicholas Ventrice, Deki Ryan and Lana Ryan.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Avenue, Virginia Beach. A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00am at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1404 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach with Rev. Esteban DeLeon officiating. A reception will be held in the church after the Mass with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. Condolences may be shared with the family at altmeyer.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
I am Jerrys 1st cousin. My mother
was Marion Smith the daughter of Tom
Smiths 2nd wife Bridget Horan. The last time I saw Jerry was at Eileen
Comers wedding Elisabeth nee Smiths
daughterin 1949. Jerry, Douglas and
I left the reception in Brooklyn and
went into Manhattans Times Square
and had a great time.I am the same age as Jerry and served in the Air
Force during the Korean war. I am
also a Bridge player and wish I had
been able to play a couple of hands
with him. My wife JoAnn is from
Hampton, VA and we have 4 children
and 6 Grandchildren. I wish we
could have been closer as we had
similar lives but I am sure we will
all be together someday. My deepest
sympathy and thoughts are with you.

We will miss you for you have been a big part of the ST PATRICK AOH DIVISION NR1 SPD1 in VA Beach VA. As AOH Treasurer for the last 3 years, your professionalism was only exceeded by your calm & pleasant demeanor. Thank you for being YOU and a friend to all. For your family, especially Judy, we will not forget you and be assured that whenever you need some help, we will be there – so pls just reach out to us, the Hibernians.
Jerry, take care old friend. We will meet again in a better place. Until then….

Jerry was an amazing man, a treasured cousin, and an inspiration to all. To know him was to love and admire him. We are grateful for his life, for his family, and for his service to our country.
