Jeffrey C. Belmonte, 29, passed away on Dec. 29, 2001 while snowboarding in Mont Tremblant, north of Montreal, Canada.

He was a graduate of Menchville High School in Newport News, VA, Class of 1990. He continued his studies at the University of Virginia, graduating with a B.S. in civil engineering in 1994. He then worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, initally at corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio, followed by various international projects. His most recent assignment was a engineering team leader at the Goodyear-Napanee plant in Ontario, Canada. While working he completed a master’s degree in civil engineering and had just completed two sessions in the Fuqua School of Business Cross-Continent Program at Duke University.

He truely lived life to it’s fullest, refusing to be held back by anything or anyone. He loved the outdoors: Hiking, sketeboarding, swimming, rock climbing, rapelling, snowboarding, skiing, and most recently sailing. He backpacked through Europe, went on African safari, reached the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, and hiked the Inca Trail. He enjoied the company of many friends including his fraternity brothers of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity, Bet Psi Chapter.

His father Mr. Gregoria F Belmonte, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Emerita C. Belmonte of Newport News, Virginia; his brother, Dr. David C. Belmonte, residing in Ann Arbor, Michigan’ his sister, Ms. Cynthia C. Belmonte, residing in Arlington, Virginia; and many beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins in the United States and abroad.

Visitation will be held beginning at 5 p.m.

Friday January 4, 2002 at Altmeyer Funeral Home in Newport News, Virginia, followed by a wake service at 7 p.m..

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2002. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News.

Memorial donations may be made to the Natural Resources Defense Counsel www.nrdc.com, an environmentally friendly non-profit organization.
