James W. “Jim” Fizer, 77, of Powhatan Point, Ohio, died Sunday, December 23, 2007, in Valley Hospice Palliative Care Unit at Trinity East Hospital, Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born November 25, 1930 in Hurricane, W.Va., a son of the late Cecil and Gladys Bridgeman Fizer.

He was retired from IBEW local No. 141, Wheeling, W.Va.; was a current member of the Powhatan Point Village Council, serving since being elected in 1996; a member of American Legion Post No. 228; a life member of VFW Post No.5565, both of Powhatan Point; a Protestant by faith; and an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Fizer in 1965; a son, Robert Fizer in 1992; two sisters, Gail Hibbs and Jacqueline Hall; and a brother Danny Paul Fizer.

Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Alice “Mae” Fizer; three daughters, Theresa Tom Tucker of Clarington, Sherrie Mark LaFrance of Dillon, Colo., and Kelly Fizer of Powhatan Point; three brothers, Reid Fizer of Teays Valley, W.Va., John Fizer of St. Albans, W.Va., and Joe Fizer of Ravenswood, W.Va.,; three sisters, Carolyn Davis and Bonnie Garrett of Teays Valley, W.VA., and Brenda Kay Simms of Westchester, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and a great grandson.

Family will receive friends Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 186 Main St., Powhatan Point, Ohio where services will be held at noon, Friday, with the Rev. Madelynne Webber officiating.

Interment will be in Clarington Cemetery, Clarington, Ohio.

Powhatan Veterans Honor Guard will conduct services Thursday at 7 p.m. and Military Graveside services.
