James Joseph “Jim” Alvaro, 69, passed away after a long battle with MSA, Monday, June 1, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born in Geneva, NY to the late James J. Alvaro Sr. and Lois LaVell Alvarocurrently living in the Wayne Cty Nursing Home, Lyons NY. He served our country in the U.S. Army and Navy, a total of 23 years, and retired with a rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the St. John Apostle Catholic Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Beverly Luongo Alvaro, children, John David Alvaro, Erica Ann Alvaro Caicedo, granddaughter, Skylar Caicedo, all of Virginia Bch., Va. Brothers, Nicholas Alvaro of Boynton Bch. Fl., Michael RhondaAlvaro of Lakewoth Fl., sisters, Angela Marty Gedney of Vero Bch. Fl., Lisa David Healy of Newark NY, Tricia Mark Joseph of Canandaigua NY.Stepmother Janice Alvaro, of Canandaigua NY, Step-brothers, Michael Carney deceased, Brian Carney, Stepsister, Debbie Cinquegrana. 2 surviving Aunts, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Alvaro was a Vietnam Veteran, and earned a purple heart and Bronze star. He earned his Masters in math and science from ODU. After he retired from the navy, he was a system engineer for General Dynamics.He was an avid fisherman, loved hunting and cake decorating professional.He also enjoyed bowling and had a passion for reading.

A mass will be held Wed., June 3, 2015 at 12:30pm at Star of the sea, Catholic church, burial is to follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A reception to follow at his home. Altmeyer funeral home is assisting the family in their time of need.
