Provenzano, James F., 92, of Benwood, WV. died Sunday, January 18, 2004, in Wheeling Hospital.
Born in Benwood on May 6, 1911, Jim was the son of the late Buonaventura and Angelina Gigliotti Provenzano. He was a retired employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Benwood Plant with 43 years of service and a Army veteran of WWII.
Jim was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, Benwood, the American Legion Blake Brothers Post 46, Benwood, the VFW Post 3655, McMechen, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1430, Holy Name Society at St. Johns, and a member of Benwood City Council for more than 37 years.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Provenzano in 1979; two sisters, Elizabeth Foglia and Martha Groves and his brother Anthony Provenzano.
Surviving are three daughters, Rebecca Joan Provenzano of Benwood, Elizabeth Ann Dreier and her husband Gerald of Poland Ohio, and Lynn Bauer and her husband John of Lakeland FL., four grandchildren, David Bauer of Winterhaven FL., Andrea, Alissa, and Jane Mary Dreier all of Poland Ohio, one great grandson Darren Bauer of Winterhaven FL, a special friend who Jim considered his daughter, Cindy Uarich of Wheeling and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St. McMechen on Wednesday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Johns Catholic Church, Benwood. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Vigil services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
