BARTSCH, James E., 83, of Elm Grove WV, left this life on August 11, 2008, to be reunited with the love of his life, Marilyn Carroll Bartsch. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending his time with family telling old stories and jokes. There was seldom a time he couldn’t find something to laugh about and even in his final days, he continued to tell everyone who inquired, “I am very well, thank you”. Missing his wife of 50 years and looking forward to be reunited with her, loving his family unconditionally, and having strong faith in God carried him through his final difficult weeks.
Jim was born in Wheeling WV on January 12, 1925, son of the late Herman F. and Adelaide Duffy Bartsch. He was a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn C. Bartsch in 1995; three siblings in infancy, Rita, John, and Lawrence; two brothers, Herman and Thomas Bartsch; and one sister, Mary Ellen Bartsch Macklin.
Jim is survived by four children, Carol Ann Stewart Roger of Charleston WV, Judy Dietrich Tom of Wheeling, James M. Bartsch Kim of St. Clairsville OH, and Jeffrey P. Bartsch Sherri of Flower Mound , TX; nine grandchildren, Dawn Mattingly, Allyson Dietrich, Aimee Dietrich, Jason Bartsch, Brian and Matthew Bartsch, Sasha Stottlemeyer, Corey Lyden, and Sally Lyden; five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving brothers, Louis J. and Leo D. and his wife Mary Anne of Wheeling, and Gerald V. and his wife Marilyn of Columbus, Georgia; two sisters in law, Doris Carroll and Adrianne Malik and her husband Jack of St. Clairsville and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a retired meat cutter for Kroger Company, where he worked for 33 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove on Thursday August 14, 2008 from 6-8 pm and on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2244 Marshall Ave Wheeling WV 26003.
