James Dees Cox

Norfolk – Retired U.S. Army CWO-4 James Dees Cox, passed away May 14, 2010 at Sentara Leigh Hospital with his wife and son at his side. He was born October 13, 1927 in Meridan, MS, to Jessie Allen and James Porter Cox. He was a devout member of Azalea Baptist Church.

He retired after 42 ½ years from the U.S. Army and Army National Guard, where he worked at the Deep Creek N.I.K.E missile site. He also retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a federal civil service employee where he worked on electronic systems for Americas high tech submarines. He loved God, family, the military and his country.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 ½ years Betty; daughter, Vicky Jones and husband Darwin of Gates, N.C.; three sons, James Richard of Norfolk, Russell and wife Mary of Chesapeake, David and wife Lori of Virginia Beach.; sister, Beth Mazurowski and husband Paul of Milton, TN.; brother, Robert BOB and wife Janine of Chandler, AZ.; two granddaughters, Taylor Cox and Jessica Cox; five grandsons, Nicholas Jones, Justin Jones, Ryan Cox, Randall Cox, and Andrew Cox, and one great granddaughter, Reese Jones. James is predeceased by his brother Don of Tampa, FL.

A memorial service will be held at Azalea Baptist Church, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 11 A.M. The family suggests that any memorial donations be given to Azalea Baptist Church in James’ memory.

I had the pleasure of working with James in the Military and at NIKE site. He was a wonderful coworker. I am very sad to here about your loss.
