BERNHARD, James C., Sr., 80, of Benwood WV, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at the OVMC, Wheeling.
He was born November 13, 1932 in Benwood, a son of the late William and Margaret Bishop Bernhard.
James was retired from the Ormet Corp. and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Showalter Bernhard, in 1995, 2 brothers; William and Jack Bernhard and 2 sisters; June Bernhard and Rosemarie Conaway.
Surviving are 2 children; Jamie Angela Bernhard of Belmont, OH, Jennifer AnnMichael Bernhard-Smith of Shallotte, NC, a sister, Helen Borst of Mammoth Beach, NJ, 6 grandchildren; TravisEmilyMontag, Becca Bernhard, Shadow and Dallas Montag, Megan Bernard, Allison SmithBABY GIRL, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Monday, June 10 from 6-8pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, WV, where services will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 11:00am.
Burial will follow in Parkview Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

I was saddened to hear that James had passed away. I am a nurse at the Health Plan & had been talking to him since March about his heart. I enjoyed our calls & many times he would share stories of his family & talked of you fondly. I will keep you all in my thoughts & prayers. Donna.

Jamie, Jennifer and family, Sorry for you loss! Your dad was a great man! He and your Mom are now reunited in Heaven. Your family has been great long time friends with my Aunt Faye and family. I know Aunt Faye will really miss your Dad. Keeping you all I’m my prayers during this difficult time.

Jamie,Jennifer,and family… not sure if I will make it to the funeral home but please know though that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this trying time. My mom also sends her condolences. Jennifer, Jamie and families….I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. He was a great man, and will be deeply missed. May you find comfort in all of the wonderful memories that you have been blessed with. You dad was definately one of a kind! He could always put a smile on anyone’s face, and I am sure that his influence will never be forgotten.
