An old proverb states, “The only truly dead are those that have been forgotten.” From watching your family care for your father, grandfather, and husband the last couple years I know that he has no chance of that happening. Plus I’d be remissed not to mention his friends and other relatives who stopped by. We should all be so lucky in our final days, but to be that lucky, one has to live the type of life that Mr. Smith did. While no human being is perfect, I’ll always think of Mr. Smith as one of “Life’s Good Guys” that enjoyed his family and his time given to him on this earth as much as anyone.

Dear Family of Howard T. Smith,

I was so sorry to read about the death of Mr. Smith in the obituaries. I understand this is a difficult time for you right now. What helps me to cope is knowing the Bible’s hope for the future. Acts 24:15 explains that there will be a resurrection of all our dead loved ones in the near future. This promise from God is very reassuring. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Howard was never like a boss he was more like a part of the team. He was like family. Since I knew Howard in 1975 I never knew him to say a mean word to anyone. He always showed great compassion for his family and trusted his crew with honisty. His crew was very loyal to him and knew him as a friend. Howard will be very deeply missed. Our prayers are with Hazel and his children and he will be very deeply missed by all who knew him. Love Don and Mary Fahnestock
