Guckert, Howard, 88, of National Rd., Wheeling, WV, died in Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center. He was formerly of Marietta, Ohio, where he owned and operated the R & S Beef Cattle Farm and the R & S Meat Market. He was a former member of the Marietta Country Club, the Marietta Chamber of Commerce, Junior Chamber of Commerce, and the Marietta Boat Club. He was also a member of the Eagles Club and the Elks Club He was a WWII combat veteran serving with the 44th Division Signal Co., attached to the 44th Infantry Division from Cherborg, France through Germany, the Battle of the Bulge, and Austria. He was awarded three combat bronze stars along with numerous other medals. The 44th Infantry Division was awarded a presidential unit citation. He was a former meat supervisor with Kroger, Columbus and a sales representative of the Campbell Soup Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hulda Guckert, five brothers, Ray, Robert, Richard, Edward and Harold Guckert, two sisters, June Greenburg and Ruth Weigle. He is survived by one sister, Virginia Holland, of Marietta, Ohio, three daughters, Judith Raab, Jean MacEwan, JoAnne Auber and her husband Larry, one son, Thomas Guckert and his wife Marylou, all of Wheeling; seven grandchildren, Howard and Thomas Cooper, Timothy Auber, Jennifer Gardner and her husband Jeremy, Bobbi Danhart, Nicole MacEwan, Brad Guckert, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, at the convenience of the family.
