Horace Lee Nixon, 80, of 3465 S. Crestline Drive, Virginia Beach VA, passed away on Thursday January 17th, 2002.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was employed as a supervisor for many years with Anchor Fence Company. He was born in Norfolk, VA and was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel Nixon. He spent a great part of his life doing things for others. He loved his Masonic and affiliated organizations and served as Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, Norview Chapter, Past Grand Royal Patron of the Order of the Amaranth; Past High Priest of Norview Royal Arch Chapter as Chaplain for 25 years; Past District Deputy of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter; member of Indian River Lodge #252; member of Khedive Temple; Captain of the Color Guard and secretary for 15 years; member of Grice Commandery; Past Matrons & Patrons Club; Past Royal Patron of the Order of the Amaranth Mace Court; Past Soverign Master of the Allied Masonic Degrees; Past Watchman of the Shepherds of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; and many other orders.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred Jeanette Nixon, a son, Ronald Lee Nixon and his wife Joan Woodard Nixon of Virginia Beach, a daughter Linda Ann Clayton and her husband Andrew Clayton of Suffolk, VA; five sisters, Pearl Roberts, Janice Nutter, Kathryn Johnson, Marian Brown, Rose Cote, and brotherRobert L. Nixon of Belton Missouri, three grandchildren, Darryl Nixon, Dana Clayton and Karrie Sanders, two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00pm Monday, January 21st, at the Christian Church Uniting, 6049 Indian River Road by Hardee’s Restaurant.
The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
At this time, let us rejoice is knowing that his homegoing will be wonderful and glorious. For he is in a far better place than we are. Amen
