Herman L. “Lloyd” Cowdery, Jr.
Herman L. “Lloyd” Cowdery, Jr, 71 of Orchard Street, East Liverpool, OH died at his residence on Saturday, September 27, 2008 following a lengthy illness. He was born in East Liverpool on May 9, 1937, a son of the late Herman L. and Frieda Joy Cowdery, Sr.
Living his entire life in this area, he was a self employed roofer, worked as a kiln placer at Homer Laughlin China and retired from the General Motors Van Plant in 1990 after working there for 20 years. Mr. Cowdery was member of the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ in Chester, WV.
His previous wife, Velvie Heater Cowdery died on April 2, 1992.
His wife: Connie Sprout Cowdery, whom he married on July 25, 1992 survives him at home.
Three sons: Terry L. Cowdery of Columbiana, OH, Shawne F. Cowdery of Auburndale, FL and Larry W. Cowdery of Calcutta, OH; three daughters: Barbara Price of Calcutta, OH,. Alice M. Searfoss of Lakeland, FL and Cynthia R. Otter of Joppa, Maryland; two step-sons: Thomas J. Snodgrass of Calcutta, OH and Timothy W. Snodgrass of Mabelvale, Arkansas; three step-daughters: Catherine A. Weyand of East Liverpool, OH, Candie L. Dugger of Coila, Mississippi and Crystal L. Baker of East Liverpool, OH; two brothers: Melvin Cowdery of LaPunta, CA and Kenneth Cowdery of East Liverpool, OH; one sister: Glenna Thomas of Hastings, PA; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren as well as several step grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive him.
Besides his parents and previous wife, one son: Robert L. Cowdery; one brother: Everett Cowdery and three sisters: Wilma Jean Fife, Helen Sours and Rhea Chiota preceded him in death.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Evangelist Frank Higginbotham of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell, WV.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
