I was saddened to hear about the death of my good friend Henry S. Schaefer. Henry and I were classmates at Linsly and the best of friends starting years ago on Edgewood Street. We have been corresponding via the internet and keeping up on things. My condolences to all of Hanks family. Robert O. Hess, Tamarac, Florida…
I was saddened to hear of Henry’s passing last Thursday. He was a very good friend of my Father,William C. Gartner Jr., also an electrical engineer and Linsly graduate. My mother, the former Marguerite Harpfer, knew him well and spoke often of Henry and brother Bill. I worked at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Yorkville after Henrys departure for Benwood. I never had the pleasure of working directly with Henry, but he was highly regarded by all who knew him.
With sincere sympathy,
Eric W. Gartner
I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the family of Henry Schaefer. Although I never saw him after WWII broke out, my sister, Peggie Harpfer Gartner and myself, Pattie Harpfer Dailer enjoyed his friendship from grade school through high school.
“The Gang” always met after school on Walnut Ave. where the synagogue is located now. We played football, biked, skated and just had fun.
I saw Henry’s Linsly reunion picture in the paper, set it aside planning to call him, and am sorry I never did. He was a very nice person to know and will be missed by all.
Sincerely,
Pattie Dailer
