DANKMER, Henry C. 78, of Moundsville, died Tuesday July 1, 2003 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 17, 1925 in Moundsville, the son of the late Fred and Mary Blake Dankmer.
He was a Protestant by faith, retired from the Planning Dept. of Mobay-Bayer Corp., a U.S. Army Engineer veteran of WWII where he served in the European Theater and was awarded a bronze battle star and then in the Pacific Theater where he earned the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was a member and past governor of the Moundsville Moose Lodge 1087, member of Moundsville Eagles AERIE 499, 40-8 Voiture 173, a member of American Legion Post 3, a lifetime member and past post commander of VFW Post 437, a member of the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard, a member of the Mobay-Bayer 25 Year Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Ruth Huntsman, Louisa Dankmer, Emma Jean Horvat and two brothers, Fred Dankmer Jr. and Parry Dankmer.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Roberta L. Duffy Dankmer; three daughters: Vickie L. Moffitt and her husband Donald, Rebecca S. Fahey, Kathy L. Jones and her husband Ed, all of Moundsville, a sister Mary Alice Balgo, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, W.Va. where services will be held Friday July 4, 2003 with Pastor Ron McCoy officiating. The Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Moundsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Tender Loving Care Hospice, 1231 Warwood Ave., Wheeling, WV 26003, or to Moundsville Honor Guard, 114 Grant Ave., Moundsville, WV 26041

I am so happy I was finally able to meet the fine man who carried the name of our forefather. I only wish I would have known him sooner. My sincere condolences to those who will miss him most.

Please accept our condolences on your loss. My father,Bob Fletcher, deeply regrets that he cannot attend the service. He and Henry worked together,and were friends for many years. As of late my dad has been in poor health and on dialysis. Lee Fletcher
