STEIGNER, Helen Marie, 88, of McMechen, W.Va., died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital.

She was born October 10, 1923 in Lansing, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clyde and Garnett Seevers Bell. She was a member of the Benwood – McMechen United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. She was also the past High Priestess of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine and the past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile. She was a retired clerk for the West Virginia Department of Highways.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, John Steigner, her infant son, one sister, Clara Maguire, five brothers, John Bell, Robert Bell, James Bell, Paul Bell, and Charles Bell, and son-in-law, David Marl.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Marl of Moundsville, W.Va., Patricia Bonitatibus Ernest of McDonald, Pa., and Bonnie Ray Gregory of St. Clairsville, Ohio; two sisters, Anna Mae Harris of Fayetteville N.C., and Ida June Burritt of Hilliard, Ohio; five grandchildren, John Marl Diana, Amanda Bonitatibus, Christine Bonitatibus, Corey Ray, and Andrew Ray; and one great grandson, Landon Marl.

Friends will be received from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 and Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, with Rev April Forkey officiating. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Blaine, Ohio.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital and especially Wing 7 for their loving care and kindness that they expressed towards their mother during her stay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505

Helen was one of my Thoroughbred Fillies in the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine in 1993-94 and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed but always in our hearts.

I want to give my deepest sympathy to your family for your loss. It has been the greatest pleasure taking care of Helen at Peterson,she was my buddy. She has brought me much joy and laughter in the time I was blessed to know her.Bonnie can vouch for how silly me and Helen were together.She will be missed dearly by me and the others at peterson who had the honor to know her.She will never be forgotten for she has a special place in my heart forever.
